Serving Others

Care Companions are members of St. Stephen Lutheran who serve as faithful companions to others who are experiencing any of life's challenges or who desire Christian friendship. You can rely upon their confidentiality and prayer partnership. If you are interested in being paired with a Care Companion, contact Angie Zenk in the Church Office (515) 276-4628 or at office@ststephenlutheran.org.

Disaster Relief Aid: Support of Lutheran Disaster Response will bring hope and healing to those affected by natural disaster. Checks, payable to "Lutheran Disaster Response," can be mailed to: Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, PO Box 1809, Merrifield VA 22116-8009. Online donations can be made at: community.elca.org/lutherandisasterresponse.

Family Promise: St. Stephen partners with other groups in this Greater Des Moines organization to help homeless families achieve stable housing and income. St. Stephen assists in providing meals and overnight hosts. For information, contact office@ststephenlutheran.org.

Property Workday: Skills of every kind are welcome; enjoy a cup of coffee and a cinnamon roll, too.  Events are announced by email and on the What’s New page.

Urbandale Food Pantry: St. Stephen collects and delivers donated items on a routine basis. Check the Urbandale Food Pantry's other needed items at www.urbandalefoodpantry.org/donate. Monetary gifts are the greatest help and you can make online donations at this link as well. Also, on the morning of July 4, St. Stephen hosts its Pancake4Pantry community breakfast with proceeds benefiting the pantry.

We look forward to the return of the following ministries that have been a part of St. Stephen, suspended due to Covid-19 safety measures:

Free to ServeGathers for a community service project and conversation. Meets at 10 a.m. the first Wednesday of every month
Loaves & Fishes:  On every last Saturday, this monthly meal and social gathering has been an important part of St. Stephen outreach. We’re exploring future possibilities.
